Since mid-2014, Dr. Jürgen Benz has been a member of our firm. He has many years’ experience in the area of intellectual property law practice, the majority of which were as in-house counsel. Aside from the application and enforcement of numerous national, regional and international intellectual property rights, Dr. Benz can claim wide-ranging knowledge and experience in the creation and appraisal of patent assessments in connection with acquisitions or sales of companies (due diligence and risk assessment). His further experience includes the creation, evaluation and management of national and international patent portfolios and intellectual property strategies. His professional focus stretches from chemistry and industrial chemicals to healthcare and biotech as well as from mechanical engineering to software and computer technology.
Dr. Benz had interdisciplinary studies at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität in Munich and possesses a Ph.D. from its Faculty of Biology. Since 1992 he has been a European Patent Attorney, on top of which he acquired extensive knowledge regarding national and international intellectual property rights, especially pertaining to United States patent law, in connection with European Union Community patents and European Union patent disputes. For many years he tutored Ph.D. students preparing for the European aptitude tests for certificate courses at the Centre d'Etudes Internationales de la Propriété Intellectuelle at the University of Strasbourg.
